What Denomination Is Journey Church When you step inside the doors of Journey Church, our aspiration is for you to sense a profound connection with our community. Our ultimate goal is to create an atmosphere where individuals can encounter the presence of God in a way that transforms their lives.
We firmly believe that the church extends beyond a weekend service; it’s about enabling each person to engage with God on a personal and authentic level.
Our vision is for genuine people to have meaningful encounters with the one true God and to experience the authentic life offered through Christ. We warmly invite you to join us on this remarkable journey!

In 2006, Pastor Shawn received a divine calling from God while walking and praying—a calling to establish a church that would “rescue people far from God with real life in Christ.” After months of prayer and gatherings with like-minded leaders, Journey Church conducted its first Sunday service at the community center in Liberty, MO.
As our young, mobile congregation expanded, our Sunday service locations shifted multiple times to accommodate our growing reach and the fulfillment of Journey’s vision. The final location for Journey Church in its mobile form was Shoal Creek Elementary School. In March of 2012, we embarked on an ambitious journey by relocating to our current address at 1021 S. Brown Street in Liberty, MO. This move required significant faith, as it entailed transforming 10,000 square feet of warehouse space into a fully functional church facility. However, God faithfully provided, and the Journey Church community demonstrated unwavering support through both labor and financial contributions.
From its inception, God has been at work in Journey Church. Our history is woven with stories of salvation, miraculous healing, restored marriages, and lives set free. We are deeply committed to spreading the Gospel and providing relief efforts, both locally and globally. This commitment has led us to collaborate with dedicated men and women serving full-time in foreign lands, sharing God’s good news and transforming lives.
Journey Church’s growth primarily occurs through word of mouth. We refrain from investing in billboards along highways or radio commercials, as we believe that God’s touch is palpable here, and people are eager to share their experiences. It’s an exhilarating place to be, and we firmly believe that the best is yet to come!
Questions? Contact Pastor Shawn at
- The Bible: We firmly believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God.
- God: We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit—a concept known as the Trinity.
- Jesus: We affirm the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miraculous works, vicarious and atoning death, bodily resurrection, absolute victory over Satan’s power, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His certain return.
- Holy Spirit: We acknowledge the ongoing ministry of the Holy Spirit, empowering Christians to lead godly, empowered lives.
- The Church: We maintain that the church comprises all true believers in Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice, trusting Him as their Lord and Savior. The local church serves as God’s instrument to establish His Kingdom on earth.
- Salvation: We emphasize the necessity of regeneration through the Holy Spirit for the salvation of the lost, and we affirm that salvation is entirely by grace through faith.
- Gifts of the Holy Spirit: We believe that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians 12 are available and operational in the Body of Christ today.
- Baptism and Holy Communion: We observe the ordinances of water baptism (by immersion) in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as well as Holy Communion.
- Heaven and Hell: We affirm the resurrection of both the lost and the saved. The lost face eternal damnation and separation from God, while the saved inherit eternal life in the presence of God.
- Unity of Believers: We uphold the spiritual unity of all who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ.
